Mayor Bill de Blasio recently announced a $122 million dollar raise in additional funding for the Staten Island Ferry. The money will be primarily spent in various ways to modernize terminals and for enhanced terminal security.

The city has plans for what this additional money will go towards. For starters, $11 million dollars of the new funds will go towards increasing security around the ferry terminal. This will include the installation of additional cameras in the terminal and piers, resulting in enhanced ability to monitor the vicinity for security threats of all types. Another apartment complex is being planned for Staten Island’s North Shore. At the waterfront of Rosebank, there is an upcoming project in progress for the construction of three large apartment buildings, a total of 400 apartment units located at 125 Edgewater Street.

The project won community backing due to the planning containing lower height and increased parking; it will be limited to eight stories and will have parking spaces for every unit. Current residents of the neighborhood were worried about there not being enough parking in the area. After communicating these fears to the developers, V Capital Management planned in additional parking.
