Marsh Avenue School of Expeditionary Learning

One of the newer intermediate schools built on Staten Island is the Marsh Avenue School of Expeditionary Learning, also known as Intermediate School 63. This school also houses the CSI High School for International Studies and the Gaynor McCown Expeditionary Learning School, just in different sections of the building. These schools are located in the neighborhood of Heartland Village, at 100 Essex Drive. The Marsh Avenue School of Expeditionary Learning accepts students from all over Staten Island, but does it by lottery admission.

Intermediate School 63 teaches children in sixth grade up to eighth grade and has separate special education classes for those who need it. This school uses real world projects to teach students and it extends into each subject area. Their special programs and extracurricular activities offer music classes, arts classes, a school newspaper, a “Rock Band”, performing arts club, Achieve 3000 program, “Homework Haven”, sports activities, as well as some other activities and clubs.
