“Always Rising Higher”
The original building for Public School 11 was constructed in 1888. By 1916, the school was designated as the Thomas Dongan School, though the building was demolished shortly afterwards. Thomas Dongan was the governor of the Province of New York during the seventeenth century. Dongan Hills, the neighborhood in which the school is located in today, was also named after him. In 1918, a new school building was erected for Public School 11 at the same site. The address for the school is 50 Jefferson Street.
Public School 11 is for children from pre-kindergaten though fifth grade, and offers special education courses. The school's motto is "Always Rising Higher". It offers full-time dance programs and part-time music programs. After school programs include dance and newspaper club.
