Public School 18

“We Are Family”

In 1890, Public School 18 was constructed in the present West Brighton neighborhood. It was designated on March 22, 1916 as the John Greenleaf Whittier School, after the nineteenth-century Quaker poet and abolitionist. The school was rebuilt in 1963, but remains on the same parcel of land, at 220 Broadway.

P.S. 18’s motto is “We Are Family”. Classes are offered at the school for children from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, along with special education classes. After-school programs are geared toward helping students with their homework. There is also a basketball program available for fifth graders.
