Public School 19

“Striving for Excellence”

In 1889, a school building was constructed for Public School 19 in the present neighborhood of Port Richmond. It was designated as The Curtis School in 1916, for writer and public speaker George William Curtis, who resided on Staten Island for some time during the nineteenth century. By 1930, the school's building had been replaced. It is currently located at 780 Post Avenue.

Children from pre-kindergarten until the fifth grade can attend Public School 19. There are also special education classes. The school offers after-school programs including Life Designs, Project Create, and Virtual Y. There are also workshops for reading and writing. Public School 19’s motto is “Striving for Excellence”.
