“A Rare Breed”
The original school building for Public School 29 was erected in 1889 on Manor Road, next to the present post office of Castleton Corners. The school was designated as The Castleton Corners in 1916, but by 1920, it was identified as P.S. 30's annex. The school had been renamed as The Bardwell, after district superintendent of schools, Dr. Darwin Bardwell. By the next decade, the school had been moved to the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Slosson Avenue, placing it in the current Royal Oak community. The address for Public School 29 is 1581 Victory Boulevard.
The school slogan for Public School 29 is “A Rare Breed.” Public School 29 provides classes for children from pre-kindergarten until the fifth grade, in addition to their special education classes. The school also offers many unique programs for its students, like the Believe Achieve Motivate Program, which is available for kindergarteners and first graders. Other programs offered by the school include choir, wind band, and community outreach.
