Public School 30

“A Good Place to Grow”

Due to it's location, the history of Public School 30 has much to do with the Prohibition Party. During the late nineteenth century, parents of Prohibition Park, as Westerleigh was then known, called for a school for the children. This resulted in P.S. 30 being organized in one of the hotels on the campground. By the end of the century, a lack of interest caused a second hotel to be demolished.  An actual school building was built on the land in 1899 for Public School 30. In 1916, the school was designated as The Westerleigh School. Its address is 200 Wardwell Avenue, in the neighborhood of Westerleigh.

Public School 30 offers classes for pre-kindergarten through the fifth grade, as well as special education classes.  Additionally, the school has a number of programs for its students: visual arts, performing arts, Envision Math, and Pearson Success Maker. The school also offers the after-school Latch Key program.  P.S. 30’s slogan is “A Good Place to Grow.”
