John C. Thompson
Around 1965, the Board of Education opened the doors to Public School 52. This school is located at 450 Buel Avenue, on the Eastern Shore of Staten Island’s Mid-Island section. Public School 52 is also known as the John C. Thompson School, after John Thompson who developed the neighborhood of Grant City and was a community leader. Along with the school there is Dongan Playground which both students and the public can enjoy.
Public School 52 holds classes for grades Kindergarten through fifth. They also have special education classes, separated and mixed, and English as a Second Language program. Some of the other programs they offer are the balanced literacy program, technology lab for Social Studies, Reading and Math Enrichment, Culturally Rich Art and Music program, and more. After school, they offer programs in reading, technology, and sports. Some of the extracurricular activities they have are fairs, contests, and concerts.
