Public School 53

The Bay Terrace School 

Public School 53 was built around the mid-1960s at 330 Durant Avenue. The school is also known as The Bay Terrace School, for the neighborhood in which it is located in. Along with the school there is Greencroft Playground for the students to use during school hours and for children of the neighborhood to enjoy after school. The Parks Department and the Board of Education jointly operate Greencroft Playground, which was completed shortly after the school had opened.

This school teaches children from Kindergarten up until the fifth grade. They have mixed special education classes and the Gifted & Talented Program. Public School 53 also offers manyl programs and extracurricular activities for the students: Designs Literary Designs Magazine, Strategies for Success, Book of the Month Club, Talent show, concerts, latchkey, and some classes in their after-school center.
