Park Hill, Staten Island Homes
In the 1800's, most of the land in the area was owned by the Vanderbilt family. Cornelius Vanderbilt established a ferry service that took people from what is now known as Vanderbilt Avenue to Manhattan. In the early 1900's, Clifton was home to the Fox Hills Golf Club, which was closed in 1920 when the government took over the land to use as military barracks. Many of the Victorian homes in Park Hill date back to the 1800's.
In the 1960's, The Park Hill Apartments were built on Vanderbilt Avenue and on Park Hill Avenue. They were part of New York City's plan for urban renewal. Aside from apartment buildings, the Park Hill, Staten Island real estate market is made up of mostly one family detached houses, duplex houses and attached homes that were built on land that was previously zoned for commercial use.
Park Hill is three train stops from St. George and the Staten Island Ferry. Public schools in the Park Hill/Clifton area include PS 48, PS 14, IS 49 and Concord High School.
