You might have settled on a time that is right for you to start some renovations at home. Before you embark on the renovation, there are some things you should do first.
- Set a flexible budget for yourself. You may have a general idea on how much you think the project is going to cost. Make you sure add a little extra room for the cost to grow. There can be unexpected surprises and changes that will take place once you start tearing down walls and ripping up floors.
- Have a vision for the ending result. When you go to get your hair done, you would bring along a picture of what you want done. The same goes with renovations; having a visual reference is very important. This ensures that you and the contractor having the same idea going on.
- Make a five-year plan. Even if the renovation project you are about to do is small, it should over all be apart of your big picture. Creating this plan will help you work towards the sequence of construction projects for you home.
- Have recommendations for a contractor or construction team. Since you and this person or team will be working together for some time on your home. having a good, respectful relationship with them is key. Gathering recommendations from friends, family, co-workers, and even neighbors whom have worked with this person before and admire their work.
- Create a realistic schedule. There is a sequence of events that occur during a construction project, and everyone will play their own role. Try to gain a sense of how long your project can take this way you can make arrangements to move out, eat out, or be present during the critical decision making process that will happen along the way.
Have a happy renovation project homeowner!
