This is the month most of you have been waiting for to roll around since the beginning of the year! Now that June has arrived, it is time to get your home ready for the "fun in the sun" days.

  1. Clean and seal your decks. Ideally, you will need three consecutive warm and sunny days. On day one, dry out the deck. On day two, apply deck cleaner and scrub the deck. Let it dry for 24 hours. On day three, apply deck sealer. 
  2. Wash the exterior of your house. Use an ordinary garden hose and a mild detergent. Beware of the pressure washers -- they are powerful enough to force water under the siding where it may encourage mildew and rot!
  3. Exterior house work. 

    - Caulk exterior joints around windows and doors.

With the number of car accidents occurring on Staten Island daily, the city is cracking down to do something more about it. First, there was the Vision Zero, a foundation to ending traffic deaths and injuries on the NYC streets. Staten Island's next step is adding more left turn signals in busy intersections.

If you have struggled to try to make a left turn while driving, you understand the dangers you face as a driver with the oncoming traffic from the opposite side as you inch your way closer, hoping the next car will be the last one coming so you can make this quick turn. The jury came to a decision and the verdict is denied! A new jail will not be making its way to Staten Island!

Mayor De Blasio is currently in the works to close Riker Island within the next ten years. This news led residents of Staten Island to believe they will transfer all Riker Island inmates to the permanently closed Arthur Kill Correctional Facility.

The reasoning to close Rikers Island is due to the severe violence that has occurred. There have been many investigations that had taken place at the facility. Since the Mayor wants to shut down Rikers, there has been plans circulating for opening up small jails in the five boroughs.
