The South Beach Business Improvement District has announced plans last month to install security cameras to “hot spot” areas to make the Great Kills neighborhood safer.

In 2013, there had been cameras placed in most of the train stations due to usually suspicious activities happening in those areas. Borelli took the initiative to take care of those occurring problems because the train stations had no surveillance for many years.

In 2014, Eltingville’s intersection of Armstrong Avenue and Wilson Avenue had a surveillance camera hooked up to a pole. The camera was used for spotting pedestrian activity and vehicle activity.

Now in 2016, the 122nd Precinct and the Legend Business Group teamed up for a project called the BID to make Great Kills…

A new $100 million dollar project is coming to South Beach streets. The plan will repair roadways and add sewers due to the flooding that occurs in this neighborhood.

The city began work last month on improving drainage, rebuilding roadways, and upgrading the South Beach drinking water distribution system. This will tackle the heavy flooding that occurs during heavy rainfalls.

The neighborhood currently has a small number of catch basins. The storm sewers are very limited and cannot handle the heavy rainfalls. This project will fix this issue. The Department of Environmental Protection stated that the neighborhood will receive installation of over 3 miles of new sewers, 225 new catch basins, and rebuilding almost 4 miles of existing sanitary…

The Staten Island Zoo opened on June 10th, 1936 in West Brighton. The 8-acre zoo will receive an $8.4 million dollar renovation to the current 80-year old aquarium attraction that is there now.

The new floor-to-ceiling tanks will replace the 15 smaller tanks within the 3,600 square foot aquarium. 75 Square feet of that space will hold 3,300 gallons of water in each tank, that is being made by the Department of Design and Construction. Allowing the visitors viewing these massive tanks will be mesmerized by the “walls of water”. The thanks will be made with high-grade filters and advanced temperature and water quality controls.
