Is your home ready for the new month? Here is task to get done around your house for the month of April:
- Inspect garden hoses for leaks. If any, temporary repair them with electrical tape until you can replace the hose with a new one. Do the same for your washing machine; Shut off the water to the washing machine, remove any water supply in the hoses and examine them, as well as the machine. Replace if anything is worn or damaged.
- Inspect all screens: vents and windows - from the attic to crawl spaces. Clean the window screens: lay them flat on an outside table and scrub them with a soft bristle brush using a mild detergent. Rinse with a garden hose and allow to dry completely before putting them back in place.
- Inspect outdoor structure for deterioration and signs of rot on the post, railings, and window sills. If any, plan to repair on days when the weather is nice.
- Get ready for cooking outdoors by preparing your gas grills. Clean grills thoroughly with soapy water and a brush with brass bristles. Remove stored up grease from lava rocks and ceramic briquettes by turning them over and lighting the burners for 10 minutes.
- Inspect the crawl spaces and basement after rain for water accumulation or excessive moisture. Look for signs of water damage in the subfloor and joist beneath the bathrooms, the kitchen, and laundry room.
- Clean your garbage disposal by grinding two trays of ice cubes made from a mixture of one cup white vinegar and one gallon of water. Clean your drains by pouring ½ cup baking soda and ½ cup vinegar down it. After waiting 15 minutes, flush the drain with 4 cups of boiling water (or hot tap water if you have plastic pipes.)
- Check fire extinguishers to make sure they are not expired or have lost pressure.
Have a great month homeowner!
